That is a seashell cosmos. They were very late bloomers and unfortunately weren't able to reseed(I'm hoping there are some unsprouted seeds from my initial planting that will surprise me next year!):o( I bought them from Select Seeds(http://www.selectseeds.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/053714.4.32124240063186069628)
They are very tall plants(mine were about 5 to 6 feet) and took much longer to flower than I would have guessed but the wait was worth it.
That first flower is amazing!
