After the Storm

Our neighborhood got slammed by a fast moving thunderstorm Friday night. Luckily, our street didn't lose many trees or branches (although many leaves were strewn across yards). We did lose power for about 2 1/2 or 3 hours and, whilst driving around to see what damage may have occurred, found many broken, uprooted and downed trees just down the road, right off of Lake Erie. Needless to say, we were spared yesterday's severe storms (they hit just south of here) and we currently have a gentle, but steady and much needed rain today. These photos were taken at sunset last evening. The setting sun was reflecting on the tail-end of the storm clouds to the southeast of us and oddly lighting our neighborhood. Enjoy!

In the Garden

Hot, dry weather is not being kind to my garden. My daylilies are almost finished blooming. Still have California Poppies and my garden phlox are hitting their stride. Unfortunately, my cosmos that I started from seed are growing very slowly (not enough water) but they just shot up over the past week. My mums are beginning to bloom and the bird seed is sprouting under the feeder. Other than that, all I have is what is pictured above [that and one miserable cat, pictured below!]

In the Garden

Same ole, same ole. Coneflowers, daylilies, California Poppies and Phlox. The one exception, the little red petunia that appeared in the drive/walkway. My pansies and violas were decimated by the deer.( I'm not sure why all of a sudden they were appealing, they were ignored for 2 months!) Hopefully the phlox will be able to withstand their voracious appetites (they are behind some netting but they keep popping there pretty little buds out, no doubt tempting the visiting deer association!)
